Required Background Check

Southern California Conference (SCC) Volunteer Background Check Policy

The Southern California Conference (SCC) requires all staff members volunteering within our organization to undergo a background check via Live Scan. This policy applies to, but is not limited to, the following roles:

  • Coaches

  • Board Members

  • Photographers

  • Team Parents

We understand that individuals may have past legal situations. However, an arrest or conviction does not automatically disqualify you from volunteering. Each case is reviewed individually. Any offense involving harm or attempted harm to a minor will result in immediate disqualification, regardless of case status.

What is Live Scan and How Does It Work?

  1. Obtain a Live Scan Request Form from SCC.

  2. Visit a Live Scan provider (fees vary by location).

  3. Present your form and a valid, unexpired state-issued ID.

  4. Your fingerprints will be scanned electronically and submitted to the Department of Justice (DOJ) for a background check.

  5. Results are typically returned within 2-3 business days, but processing time depends on the DOJ.

Important: Keep the receipt provided by the Live Scan operator as proof of completion.

Can I Volunteer While My Background Check is Processing?

No. You cannot begin volunteering until your background check is fully processed and approved.

Who Reviews the Background Check Results?

The SCC Records Custodian, an individual authorized by the Department of Justice (DOJ), is responsible for reviewing and determining approval status.

Probationary Approvals

Some individuals may be approved with probationary status, depending on the findings of the background check.

What Happens After the Background Check?

Once approved, you will receive a yearly SCC photo badge, which grants you access to games and fields during the season.

At the end of the season, all badges must be returned to the Charter President.

Important:

  • The badge remains SCC property at all times.

  • Failure to return the badge when requested may result in a one-year suspension or a permanent ban from SCC activities.
